The YCI Club, Christian Youth Club, served at the Special Olympics Bowling event on Friday, January 29, 2016. 30 students attended along with Mr. Coleman, Mrs. Braswell and 5 parent volunteers. Each of our students were responsible for 4 participants during the day. Students kept score, made sure participants knew when they were up to bowl and passed out the medals and awards to the participants. Most important of all, we were there to encourage, cheer on and treat these students as peers. Our students were able to get to know each of the Special Olympics athletes that they were responsible for during the event. Chuck Dellinger, with Special Olympics, gave our group the best compliment as we were leaving, saying that in 25 years he hadn’t had a group that served, interacted with the students, listened and followed his instructions like our students did. He invited us back and told our students how impressed he was with them! It was amazing day and we are looking forward to volunteering again.
